Clay Co. Schools Purchase New Chromebooks For Students

Director of Schools Matt Eldridge says technology has certainly changed the style of teaching and the way children learn.

Eldridge said that’s why the schools system recently purchased some 175 Chromebooks laptops for students.

“I spoke to a group of Tennessee Tech students the other day in education and I said we’re performers, they want instant access to things and we’ve got to perform in front of kids right now,” Eldridge said. “You can’t just stand there and no it yourself any more, you’ve got to have other means.”

Eldridge said the schools system constantly works to update and purchase more Chromebooks with the goal of having enough for each student in the county.

“We’re not on a one-to-one basis yet, but we are trying to move towards that,” Edlridge said. “With technology ever growing, we want to keep our kids and teachers up-to-date and modern.”

Students use the Chrombooks for all kinds of educational purposes, including science, math, and English, Edlridge said.

“They can cover mostly anything with this,” Eldridge said. “You try to get as many uses out of the Chromebook and that teaching style each period.”
