Clay Co. Competing In 9/11 Blood Drive

Represent your Clay County Emergency Personnel by participating in the American Red Cross: Remembering the Badges Blood Drive.

In honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of 9/11, organizations statewide are trying to collect 2,977 pints of blood for each victim. Sheriff Brandon Boone said the county wanted to make the event an in-house competition to encourage more donors.

“American Red Cross contacted me and asked if we would be willing to help participate in a blood drive in honor of the 9/11 Memorial,” Boone said. “I told them we would absolutely try our best to support them in whatever effort we could.”

Boone said the battle of the departments includes all emergency services in the county. Residents can donate for who they want to win on April 27th at the Celina Church of Christ.

“We decided to have a little competition between the local departments to see whoever gathers the most people to donate the blood wins the battle of the badges,” Boone said.

Boone said the winner will receive a small trophy and be claimed as the champion of the badges. Boone said he wants to continue this annually to keep blood donations up in the county.

“You can either register online with American Red Cross, and then when you donate that day, you tell them which organization you are helping,” Boone said. “Whether it be the fire department, the ambulance service or the sheriff’s office.”

The blood drive runs from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m in the churches fellowship hall.
