Clay Co. Commissioners Have Hope For Hospital

Clay County Commissioners still have hope for the fate of the Cumberland River Hospital.

Commissioners Dorothy Forney and Winton Young were two of the three votes in favor of the county providing funding to open the hospital. Young said he wants to see the city and the county work together to get the hospital.

“And if we cannot get the hospital maybe we can get a smaller medical center and go with that,” Young said. “But I would love to have the hospital.”

Young said he will rely on the leadership of County Mayor Dale Reagan and Celina Mayor Luke Collins to come together and find a solution.

Forney said she plans on bringing the topic back before the full county commission. She said the first resolution failed when six commissioners voted against the funding.

“Some of them were speaking about how it wasn’t written up to our specifications so I’m going to bring it back up and let them discuss what they want to put in it and what they want to do about the resolution,” Forney said. “But I think we need to give the money because it’s COVID money and it needs to be spent, it’s not taxpayer money.”

Both Forney and Young said healthcare is a need and a major want in the Clay County community.
