Clay And Jackson Looking to Fill Veterans Service Officer Role

Clay and Jackson Counties are trying to fill the role of Veterans Service Officer.

The position opened up after Brad Halfacre stepped away after being in the role since July of 2021. Clay County Mayor Dale Reagan said the only qualification is you are required to be a veteran.

“We have a lot of you know elderly veterans in our areas and sometimes they just need some assistance and everything,” Regan said. “Veterans Service office we felt like is one in the past that has been really beneficial to our veterans out there.”

A committee has been formed made up of veterans to conduct the interview process. You can apply at the Clay County Executive’s office. The deadline to apply is Friday.

“It (Veterans Service Officer) helps our county and our cities tremendously, because when they help a veteran whether it be medical or upping the amount of pension they are getting or whatever,” Reagan said. “If they’re getting money to be spent nine times out of ten they are spending it in your counties and your cities and stuff. Not just that, it’s a benefit to them. We want to do everything to help our veterans, because they’re the reason we have the freedoms we enjoy each day.”

Halfacre stepped away from the Veterans Service Officer Role to move into another sector of veterans’ affairs. Bob Cole filled the role previously.

“They have assisted veterans, we’ve even had veterans come up to us and tell us and say hey say, hey they helped me out a bunch to get us more medical things that we normally didn’t know we had available to us,” Reagan said. “They play a very, very, very important role.”
