Clarkrange, York Students Start Cosmetology

Clarkrange and York Institute students came together Friday morning, beginning work in the new Clarkrange Cosmetology facility.

York students can now take cosmetology classes at the facility, through a co-op agreement between the two schools. Fentress County Director of Schools Kristi Hall said it is important to set the students of Fentress County up for success regardless of what school they go to.

“In a small, rural county neither high school probably has enough students to be able to adequately fund that,” Hall said. “So if we can join together it allows more opportunities for students at both schools.”

Hall said the facility has all-new state-of-the-art equipment that students are excited to train with. Hall said it probably the first time in the county that schools have been able to share students to offer them as many options as possible.

“I visited the classroom this morning,” Hall said. “And visited the students from both York and Clarkrange that (were) there and it is something that we are very proud of.”

Clarkrange students are able to co-op classes at York Institute as part of the arrangement. Hall said they are working with York Institute to coordinate other programs to offer students across the county in the future.

“One of the things that we wanted to be able to do is maximize both high schools and the upcoming TCAT and Roane State center,” Hall said.
