A pedestrian bridge will be added to Cookeville’s Dogwood Park.
Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the bridge will connect the sidewalk East of the Heart of the City Playground to the sidewalk next to the great lawn.
“We are looking to get that bridge designed and delivered,” Woods said. “We look at a clear-span steel bridge that will go across there and connect those two entry ways. We hope it will be more convenient for people coming in from the east side and for folks who want to get over to the Heart of the City Playground from the middle of the park.”
Proposals for engineering and installing the bridge will be due back to the city by September 13th.
Woods said the original master plan for Dogwood Park included plans for a pedestrian bridge.
“We are now at a point where we have some funding allocated for manufacturing and installation of that bridge,” Woods said.
There are other things in the original master plan that have not been developed yet, including a special events facility. The city has also acquired adjoining property on First Street for an expansion of the park.
“Most everything else that we had originally planned for Dogwood Park has been completed,” Woods said. “We just need to get this bridge in, build another restroom facility, and then we can talk about what we are going to do with the additional property that we acquired earlier this year.”
Woods said he hopes to have the bridge completed by the spring of 2019.
