Church Holding Outing To Help Youth Baseball

A Baxter church will hit the links Friday to support the Baxter Baseball Youth League.

Life Church Pastor Jared Houston said he expects this year to be bigger and better than last year’s inaugural outing. He said the decision to help out the League made sense since there is an overlap between the congregation at Life Church and parents and players within the league.

“We just decided, through prayer and talking with the board over there, that why don’t we just come together on this and do something for the community starting right there,” Houston said. “Because Baxter loves their sports and there’s no reason we should be that far behind with our little kids as committed as we are to our older ones.”

Houston said the people at the Baxter Baseball Park are doing good work and trying their best, but things are just worn down. He identified different field sizes and the scoreboards as areas that are in need of some attention.

“The scoreboards themselves don’t function correctly due to circuit boards,” Houston said. “And you can’t find circuit boards for them to replace the bad ones that are burnt out because they are outdated. And one field is bigger than the other field, so you never play the same way. You got 60 foot bases on one field and 40 foot bases on the other field, so you’ll never be able to host tournaments.”

The tournament will be a four-man scramble with each player costing $100. The day will include breakfast, door prizes, on the course contests and prizes for teams with the top scores.

Houston said to sign up you can visit Life Church’s website and find it in the “Events” tab and the Baxter campus or you can call the Baxter campus directly. He said the scramble will be fun, but the day will have a lasting impact for years to come.

“If we’re not investing in our children, then we don’t reserve the right to complain about our future,” Houston said. “And I firmly believe that, that’s not just a slogan, that’s a stand of mine. It’s investing in our community, it’s making our town better, it’s a safe place for our kids to go and our families to be families and have fun.”
