CHS’s Cav Walk Returns Friday Celebrating Students

Cookeville High School bringing back an old tradition Friday evening that celebrates students- the Cav Walk.

Counselor Julie Smith and Teacher Emily Chambers have coordinated the parade. Smith said the school’s band will lead the sports teams, clubs and Mr. Cavalier in a parade on campus.

“We started planning this last year, and we’re trying to bring back some fun for our school, and some tradition” Smith said. “This was one that was just well-received by our community and our kids.”

Smith said the last Cav Walk happened about seven years ago. Chambers said the event will be like a tailgate with games and food across campus. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. with the Cav Walk starting at 4:30 p.m.

“It’s a celebration for our kids, and we invite the community to join us,” Chambers said. “It’s like a big giant tailgate. There will be games, fun and prizes. It’s a lot like the Vol Walk.”

Smith said the parade will go from the gym to the football field. Smith said most of the activities will be in the ball parks and parking lot. The celebration leads up to the high school’s Friday night football game where fall sport seniors will be honored.

“I think the kids are really excited to have an opportunity on campus to have some fun and be excited to be a Cavalier,” Chambers said. “It was really liked by a lot of people. We have some great donors that have helped sponsor some things for us. They were a big part in making this happen.”
