CHS Marked Safe After Fake Threat Against School

Cookeville High School deemed safe after a hoax threat to the school Tuesday morning.

Putnam County Schools Communications Supervisor Hannah Davis said the school entered a soft lockdown after a threatening statement was found written on the bathroom wall.

“The soft lock down was lifted and none of the students were in danger,” Davis said. “The school is not in danger. We’re thankful for that and grateful for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and school administration for their quick investigation of this issue.”

Davis said the school’s emergency response team was activated for the threat against the school. Davis said school officials working to identify the student that wrote the message. Davis said the school system believes the threat was an attempt to get out of class.

“The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department along with school administration quickly investigated the situation to see what they could determine,” Davis said. “Once it was determined, the soft lock down was lifted.”

Davis said all schools and bus routes will continue to operate as normal for the remainder of the day.
