A number of children got to shop with a cop at the Algood Walmart Thursday.
Chief Deputy Bryant Swallows said the department received a $1,000 grant to provide gifts to 11 children.
“It’s often cliché, but many people that are police officers actually get into the business to help people, Swallows said. “So, this is just an extension of that. You get to help a family that may need assistance during the holidays and you get to interact with kids and watch them shop. its just a fun time for all.”
Swallows said Algood officers also donated money for purchasing the gifts by participating in the No Shave November campaign.
“This event builds relations between the police department and the community,” Swallows said. “It also helps our officers out because it’s a positive interaction between the family and us. it’s a win-win for everybody.”
L.B.J. & C. Head Start coordinated with the Algood Police Department to help select the children who participated in Thursday’s event.
