Chamber Hosting Conference For Women

The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will host its first-ever women’s conference at the Leslie Town Center next Tuesday.

Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Amy New said the conference is for women of all ages to come and tell their stories. New said the conference emphasizes being present over perfect as many women struggle to be themselves when it comes to meeting expectations as a woman.

“Many of us women either are juggling full-time jobs or as a stay-at-home mom who is juggling a million different schedules or maybe even both,” New said. “It’s great to hear from other people and see that we are not all in this alone. We are all in this together and We need to learn from each other.”

New said the conference will teach women how to prevent burnout, manage stress, and set boundaries. New said the conference will benefit all the women who attend as it can help them find who they truly are regardless of their circumstances.

“It’s completely different but at the same time everyone sometimes has the same feelings,” New said. “So it will be great for everyone to talk about a different moment in your life or milestone and how we can help enrich each other or share stories that will make people’s lives better.”

New said she hopes the women who attend can start the journey of being themselves and enjoy life more.

“I’m hoping that they leave more energized and with more connections and bigger networks as well as feeling more confident,” New said. “To show up not just professionally again and not just in your jobs but be confident in any aspect wherever they are whether it’s at home or it’s in the community or if its volunteering or if at their jobs that they are more confident to show up as themselves.”

New said women telling their story is one of the best ways for them to be themselves. New said the saying present over perfect comes from a book that talks about the expectations of women on how they should act and dress.

Tickets for the conference are available at the chambers website. The conference will run from 8am to 2:45pm on Tuesday, October 22.
