The candidates for Crossville City Council will get the chance to share their ideas and positions during a Chamber Of Commerce forum Thursday.
Crossville Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce President Ethan Hadley said the forum will feature a committee asking questions to candidates about different topics regarding the city. Hadley said the forum is an important step towards the election process.
“There are a number of choices that people have to choose between,” Hadley said. “You don’t make those decisions blindly at the ballot box, you want to be informed and make a valued judgment in advance about who you think is going to be the best for the city moving forward.”
The city council has two spots open with six candidates running including Kristopher Cole, Mark Fox, Former Mayor J.H. Graham III, Former Mayor James Mayberry, Danny Wyatt, and Incumbent Rob Harrison. Hadley said the forum will be beneficial not only for the citizens but also for the candidates.
“The people get a chance to make an informed decision,” Hadley said. “And the candidates have a chance to state who they are, what their values are, what their character is, what position they have on certain topics, so yes it’s good for both sides.”
Hadley said this will not be a debate format. Hadley said the topics being discussed to candidates are not known.
“The committee that is organizing this event has come up with a set of questions,” Hadley said. “Those questions will not be provided to the candidates in advance and therefore they cannot be discussed.”
The Meet the Candidates forum will begin Thursday, October 3rd at 6pm at the Cumberland County Playhouse. For those who can not attend, the forum will be recorded and live-streamed on the Cumberland County Playhouse’s Facebook Page.
