The Tennessee Central Trail Board continues to discuss possible directions for expanding the current 4.2 mile rail trail.
Board member Bryan Payne said any decision will be up to elected officials in Cookeville, Algood, and Putnam County.
“We’ve got a couple of different proposals in terms of directions and routes,” Payne said. “What we are doing now is putting that together in a planned proposal that we will deliver to the City of Cookeville, City of Algood, and Putnam County. From there, they will make a decision on the proposal in terms of which way to move forward.”
Payne said the planned proposal includes routes that would head East and West.
“Right now, we’ve got from the depot to Algood. As originally planned, the trail was always intended to go up to Monterey, so making that connection is still a goal,” Payne said. “Of course, there’s talk about looking at the other direction and going towards Baxter. How we make those different routes happen in sections is what we are looking at this moment.”
A decision on which proposal to submit to city officials has not been made at this time. The Tennessee Central Trail Board meets the fourth Monday of each month at the COokeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
