Celina’s water system rehab project came to a close Wednesday.
The city held a public hearing for closing remarks from residents about the Community Development Block Grant project. Mayor Tonya Spears said she is pleased with the work that replaced some 1,900 meters over the last two years.
“They’re radio read, which cuts down on your man power and man hours,” Spears said. “Also, it was to detect water use. We were having some water loss issues, so that will help us with that.”
Spears said the system wide improvements have also solved water usage miscalculations. Spears said residents could expect a slight increase in water bills with readings now being more accurate. No residents voiced concerns during the Wednesday hearing.
Celina looks to continue improving its water system with the next round of grant funds. If awarded, the $680,000 would be used to locate water lines in need of repairs and conduct rehab.
