Celina officials will meet with TDEC this week to discuss the next steps in its splash pad project.
City Recorder Timeka Garrison said the state needs to approve the water system used since the Obey River may be utilized.
“Before you guys can even come up with a budget on the splash pad, we still need to figure out from TDEC and the Corp if we can do the recirculating,” Garrison said.
Mayor Luke Collins said the city wants to use a free flow system that cycles new water into the system and flows into the river.
“The free flow is virtually maintenance free, and it is drinkable water just like out of your faucet,” Collin said. “Those are a lot cheaper and they are safer. They seem the best option. The other option is a recirculation option.”
Garrison said the free flow system would be about $75,000 cheaper. The second option would filter the water and continuously cycle a set volume. The splash pad is set to be built at Donaldson Park.
