Celina Moving To Engineering Stage For Splash Pad Project

All signs point towards the Celina splash pad moving forward after city officials met with TDEC officials Thursday.

That is according to Mayor Luke Collins. Collins said gaining a water discharge permit for the system should not be an issue.

“Our next step is for our engineer drawing and specs,” Collins said. “I believe it would take us about 21 days to get the engineering specs done. So, it delayed it but it is still progressing.”

Collins said the Army Corps of Engineers wanted the state’s approval before the city moved forward. Collins said a free flow system that would pump water into a river needed to be reviewed.

“It went great,” Collins said. “We met them today in a video conference, so everything is going to work out fine there.”

Collins said the goal is to have the splash pad open this summer. Collins said it would be shaped like a fish with several apparatuses and pails that dump water. Collins said once the bid specs are prepared, the exact features will be known.

The Army Corps of Engineers owns Donaldson Park where the splash pad is planned. The city currently leases the land as a park.
