Celina Man Arrested After Cookeville Shooting Wednesday

A Wednesday night shooting in Cookeville led to the arrest of a Celina man.

Algood Police arrested 41-year-old David Garrett Devries for aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and violating bond conditions.

According to arrest warrants, Cookeville Police responded to the Winona Motel along East Spring Street around 11:20 p.m.

Police found the victim at the scene with a gunshot wound to the leg following a domestic dispute. The victim was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for treatment.

Cookeville authorities alerted Devries’s vehicle information to area law enforcement before Devries was stopped by Algood Police.

Devries was transported back to the Cookeville Police Department where he admitted to firing a 9 mm weapon as a “warning shot”. Devries told authorities he did not intend to shoot the victim and only meant to shoot the ground.

Authorities also charged 34-year-old Samantha Lynn Devino for tampering with evidence after throwing the weapon out the window of the vehicle.

Devries remains behind bars at the Putnam County Jail under $31,000, while Devino has since posted her bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court July 8.
