Celina will see its first updated playground equipment in over two decades.
The Board of Aldermen approved the new equipment at its Tuesday night meeting. Mayor Tonya Spears said she’s excited to see this progress.
“We have checked a couple of units, they have slides, it’s the self one unit,” Spears said. “There’s already some swings there and some other playground equipment, we just wanted to add to that, and eventually add some more. This is the first step.”
City officials accepted a $25,000 ACE Grant to fund the project in October 2019. Spears said they have until June 30 to spend all the funds.
“I think the children need something to get excited about, and get out, and exercise,” Spears said. “A lot of people already use the park, but I think that’ll start drawing them in maybe. That’s the only park we have in town, we don’t have any little side parks or anything like that. I’d really like to see people use the park more.”
