Clay County residents seeking a job can attend a drive-thru job fair Monday in Celina.
Chamber of Commerce Director Doug Young said this is a great opportunity for the community.
“You might come out of this with a really good situation,” Young said. “It’s important to take advantage of this situation. We don’t have these things often, and certainly not right here at home. So this is a real opportunity.”
Applicants will receive a map of employer vendors upon arrival at the Celina Church of Christ parking lot. The job seeker can park at any hiring booth and present a resume, fill an application, or have a job interview without exiting their vehicle.
Young said if there is a great turnout another job fair could return to Celina. The Department of Labor Force reported a seven percent unemployment rate in August.
“There’s no real excuse right now for having a high unemployment rate,” Young said. “We want to get industry in the Upper Cumberland, but we got to have a labor force before we can get the industry. All the new industries come into Tennessee, 90 percent of them have located within ten miles of the interstate.”
Industries such as Resource Managing, Clay County Schools, and Express Employment will attend the drive-thru job fair. The fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Young said the Cookeville Workforce Services have hosted drive-thru job fairs before across the Upper Cumberland with great success rates.
“You might not be unemployed, and there might be some jobs there that may be a better position than the one you hold right now,” Young said. “So you might want to come out and look at that. You may be underemployed now, but you might come away with it with an even better position than you currently hold.”
