Celina Creates New Recreational Advisory Board

The Celina Board of Aldermen has created a new Recreational Advisory Board.

The five-member group will be citizen operated and report to the city’s board of aldermen. Mayor Tonya Spears said the purpose is to bring in citizen input on future recreational projects.

“Maybe do some research and find out what the public would like to have at our recent Donaldson Park,” Spears said. “We got that lease now, and it would be for them to find out what the public would like to see down there.”

Spears said she has received interest from lots of residents with four candidates currently being considered. The fifth seat will be filled by Spears.

Among the ideas already floated for recreation, Spears said, include adding a splash pad or swimming pool to Donaldson Park.

“That could be a part of this group’s duties,” Spears said. “Maybe, locate some grants. Sometimes it is hard to do that in the office here. If you have a group and that is the only thing they are concentrating on and each on of them has a certain job.”

Spears said she wants the board established as soon as possible.
