The City of Celina considering a proposal that would prevent new connections from being added to the city’s sewer system.
Celina Mayor Luke Collins said city working on a project to clean out the wastewater treatment plant. Collins said he expects the project to clean the wastewater treatment plant system will go to bid in February.
“It would kind of put a moratorium until we can improve the system,” Collins said. “The way it is right now if we have a big rain event then we have the possibility of some overflows of that big rain event.”
Collins said the project is long overdue.
“It’s actually supposed to be cleaned out as my understanding like every five years,” Collins said. “It’s been kind of kick the can down the road and we can’t kick it anymore so we have made it a priority.”
Collins said the project will help the city make significant strides in the city’s sewer system.
“Once we open our bids in February to get it cleaned out that will be a giant leap forward for us right there,” Collins said. “Hopefully that will be done.”
