Celina/Clay Chamber Schedules First Fall Fishing Tournament

The Celina Clay County Chamber of Commerce hosting its first-ever fishing tournament.

The MidWest Crappie Tournament happening November 10th through the 12th at Dale Hollow Lake. Chamber Director Doug Young said up to 130 boats are expected.

“We’ve never done it, and we’re just playing on some new ground,” Young said. “Any time  we can get tourists to come to Clay County, we can reduce our tax rate because they come in and spend money. If this is successful, maybe we can do more of these.”

Young said conversations to collaborate with Midwest Crappie Alliance began in April. Young said now that a date has been agreed upon, the work to accommodate the fishermen begin, Young said over the next two months, the chamber will be figuring out parking, food and lodging.

“With this many people coming into Celina for one weekend, we want to make sure the restaurants are up and running,” Young said. “We’ll be contacting the Sheriff’s Department to help with some of this stuff and ambulance service will be notified. Just a lot of small contacts that need to be up and running.”

Young said the Dale Hollow Marina and the Clay County High School fishing team are also contributors to the event. Young said along with the tournament, the alliance will bring several vendors that will be set up at the fairgrounds.
