Celina Aldermen Approve Downtown Sidewalk Upgrades

New sidewalks are on the way for downtown Celina.

Mayor Tonya Spears said the ADA compliant walkway would stretch from College Avenue to Green Street.

“It is very much needed,” Spears said. “That will be a start and hopefully, we can continue later on and get more sidewalks, pedestrian friendly and some bicycle access. Just to make our city a little safer.”

The project is possible through a state grant, which requires an about $24,000 match from the city. Spears said the project will be conducted and paid through phases.

“We got this a couple years ago and hit a few bumps here in there about how it was going to take place,” Spears said. “But with the help of Mark Dudney at UCDD, we have managed to get the contract.”

The total price tag with the TDOT Multimodal Grant is about $520,000. Spears said the time line for completion is unknown at this time.
