Cedar Avenue Renovations Wrap Up Early Next Year

Work along Cedar Avenue is moving forward with improvements currently being made between 4th and 6th Street.

The project includes new sidewalks, bike lanes, storm drains and lamp posts. Cookeville Public Works Director Greg Brown said the city wants the upgrades completed early next year.

“They are still doing curve and gutter and sidewalks and underground electric and installing the decorative light posts,” Brown said. “The weather is kind of iffy this time of year, so we are working when we can get over there, or something else has not came up to look at it. It will be a little slow this time of year while the weather like it is.”

Brown said once the improvements are made, Cedar Street will also be repaved. Brown said the city is working closely with businesses and residents along the road to not affect daily operations. Brown said so far, work has gone smoothly.

“Right now, we are mainly trying to work with the businesses and everybody that lives along there to try to not interrupt their business or coming or goings,” Brown said. “That is the main contact that we have had with them right now.”

Brown said the $16,000 sewer portion of the project has already been completed. Brown said some road closures could come while finishing work. The total scope of the project ranges from 7th Street to the Westside.
