CDC Reduces Quarantine Time For Asymptomatic Exposures

Overton County Health Department Nursing Supervisor Megan Reeder said quarantining from COVID exposure can now end after 10 days.

The CDC made the changes Wednesday after seeing low positivity rates after 10 days of exposure.

“On day 11, you can then come out of quarantine with the stipulation that you are asymptomatic,” Reeder said. “You can not have any sort of symptoms whatsoever. But we still recommend and school systems may require for you to wear a mask from day to to that day 14.”

Reeder said if a person tests negative after five days of quarantining, you may come out after day seven. A person must be asymptomatic for this to apply, as well.

“They have to stay in quarantine seven days,” Reeder said. “They can not get their test on day five or before. It has to be on day six or after. To come out on day eight to require seven days in there, you have to have a negative PCR antigen test.”

An antibody test does not work in this situation, Reeder said. Actual incubation time remains at 14 days.
