Construction on Carr Creek Bridge is now expected to finish on June 6th.
Overton County Highway Superintendent James Norrod said there several factors that contributed to the delay.
“One of the pier footings, the sound test on it was not what they wanted and we had to drive piling to compensate for it and I think there was a little delay in getting the beams in here,” Norrod said.
Initially the bridge was expected to be completed in April, but was delayed again due to COVID, issues with the manufacturers, and weather. Norrod said that it is a possibility some of the work that remains could still cause potential future issues.
“They have to get the cylinders to break with the right strength so that could be a problem there, but probably not,” Norrod said. “They’ll break them on 7, 14, 21, and 28 days so sometimes you’ve gotta wait so they break good.”
Norrod said there is heavy traffic on Old Highway 42, and that this bridge could potentially aid with that.
Carr Creek Bridge is expected to be roughly 200 feet long and have two lanes and pull-off on both sides. Norrod said he is ready to get it done and get people crossing the bridge again.
