So with the gifts unwrapped, can you recycle wrapping paper?

Putnam County Solid Waste Director Doug Ashburn said that many people do not realize how items like certain Christmas wrapping paper, glitter, and laminated materials can disrupt the recycling process. He said such additives will cause significant setbacks in recycling.

“It does, it contaminates you know the bale,” Ashburn said. “Therefore the load can be sent back or we have to discard the whole bale, It costs money, time, and effort.”

Ashburn said cardboard paper is recyclable, along with Christmas cards and tube-shaped paper. Ashburn also said that there are ten convenient recycling centers spread across the county for people to drop off there paper.

“Anytime we can recycle and keep materials out of the landfill is a win win,” Ashburn said. “It’s a win for the county and its a win for the citizens.”

Ashburn said residents unsure about what can be recycled van visit WhyWasteGarbage.Com.

“We pretty much recycle anything we have a market for, we recycle,” Ashburn said.
