Byrdstown Using Planning Grant To Update Waterline Maps

Byrdstown utilizing a $50,000 planning grant to update its waterline maps.

Mayor Sam Gibson said this came about as a need after the town acquired the Pall Mall Utility District a few years ago. He said they made good strides to update the maps, but there is more to be done.

“Most places we have like a big map showing the area nd all the water lines and you’ve got different colors for your sizes, and shows where your lines are located, your cutoff valves are located,” Gibson said. “And we have a little bit on that, but we don’t have a thorough map like we need.”

Gibson said grant has already been approved and crews are working to go through and make notes of what needs to be added. He said they estimate the process to fully update the map will take about three to four months.

Gibson said the grant is one of several the city is using to update its water department needs. He said they are using a CDBG grant to update new radio-read water meters. Additionally, a $3 million grant will help Byrdstown make major upgrades to its water plant in the coming fiscal year.

“We’re very lucky and very grateful for all the grant opportunities we have right now,” Gibson said. “It’s just going to be a matter of keeping everything straight because some of these projects do overlap, but we’re very busy in Byrdstown and we’ve got some good things going!”
