Byrdstown will move forward with its water meter replacement project after bidding out the radio system and installation.
Mayor Sam Gibson said 2,900 meters will be replaced across its system. He said local technician Stacy Moody was awarded the bid to replace all the meters.
“It’s going to be wonderful to have those in and it will make life easier I hope,” Gibson said. “It will take a couple of months to get used to them and know how to operate them but it’s going to be much nicer and we’re looking forward to it.”
Gibson said the total price tag to replace the meters will cost some $1.3 million. He said the automatic Zenner water meters cost about $125 per meter, including installation.
Gibson said the project is now finalized and awaiting TDEC approval. He said as soon as approval goes through the contractor is ready to go with an expected 10-week timeline.
