The town of Byrdstown is getting ready to bid out a major water rehabilitation project.
The funding for the project is made possible by a $525,000 Community Development Block Grant that was awarded to the town in September.
The project will address water loss by adding new lines and replacing some older lines. Mayor Sam Gibson said the towns geography makes it difficult to find lines that are leaking.
“When you’re in an area like ours with a lot of sinkholes and caves, it’s hard to find all of our leaks and this will give us an opportunity to continue to narrow those down and maybe put in a few more additional shut off valves so we can isolate some of those,” Gibson said. “This is going to be a big benefit for us.”
Gibson said he hopes to award the bid sometime in March. The city will be required to pay $65,000 towards the project.
