Byrdstown will be doing some $90,000 of water treatment plant upgrades toward its water storage.
Mayor Sam Gibson said the concrete walls have deteriorated where the chemicals feed into the water.
“Contractors are a little higher than normal,” Gibson said. “We would have liked the city to come in at 60 or 70,000, but the bid came in at $91,000. It’s for our clear well rehabilitation at the Byrdstown water department.”
Water Plant Superintendent Buster Harmon said the need for work was identified when the state inspected site. Harmon said the clear well has not been worked on since 1998, but he did not expect the extent of deterioration.
W&O Construction will conduct the work for Byrdstown. Gibson said the goal is to have the project completed by this spring.
“This is the time to do it, because we want it finished by spring, because we are going to have to shut down that part,” Gibson said. “This is going to be our slowest time right now to get this done in the winter months.”
