The town of Byrdstown will place a $100 fee to use its Main Street pavilion for profit. Mayor Sam Gibson said events, such as yard sales, fall under the new requirement.
“It is available for people to use,” Gibson said. “We want to be clear that it is not for personal gain. We want organizations and churches and people to use it for fun things that they are not out to make money from the city.”
Gibson said the pavilion will remain free for nonprofit organizations and events such as birthday parties. Gibson said the town will not require events to have liability insurance.
“All potential users of the pavilion need to schedule with the office of the town hall and make the necessary arrangements,” Gibson said. “If it is a benefit for a good cause, the fee may be waived.”
Byrdstown Alderman Barbara Mitchell wanted to add a waiver to the fee saying the town is not responsible for any injuries and the party rented the pavilion is responsible for damage. Gibson said the town lawyer will help create the waiver.
Gibson said the town still has priority to the pavilion with nonprofit organizations and residents following.
