Business Program Receives New Desktops

Cookeville High School has purchased new desktop computers for the school’s Business Program.

Business Instructor Judy Henry said the program received 26 Dell Desktop computers. Henry said previously her students were using 15-year-old Mac computers which made it a challenge to teach Microsoft Office.

“If you talk to any university I mean if they are going into any type of business whether it be accounting, day chart, finance, you know any of those kinds of majors it’s strictly all on PC’s and it’s Microsoft Office,” Henry said.

Henry said she has a son who is a senior in college who majors in data analytics and business and she realized how far behind the high school’s business program was technology-wise. Henry said she is excited to finally up to date technology.

“I was thrilled so I thought they needed to update our computer lab,” Henry said. “I felt like the Dell desktops were the way to go because just having a child who has gone through college the past four years and knowing everything that he has had to do and the classes he has had to take and just everything I just know the importance of it.”

Henry said even though students are slowly learning how to operate the new computers it has been much easier to teach the course.

“I think that it is great that they are learning both types of computer platforms,” Henry said. “It’s made some of the stuff that we work on easier I feel like.”

Henry said the business program is beneficial to all students as it teaches the importance of keeping track of finances. Henry said she hopes the new computers will make the business program more attractive to students.
