Burning Beer Truck Shuts Down I-40 near Crossville Wednesday

A tractor-trailer hauling beer on I-40 westbound caught fire Wednesday causing a traffic backup for several miles.

Cumberland County EMA Director Rick Williams reports the trailer’s rear brakes caught fire outside of Crossville near mile-marker 331.

The driver pulled over to release the trailer and drove several yards to keep the fire from spreading further.

Williams says two other truckers stopped to help the driver put out the fire. The trailer was offloaded onto another truck, backing traffic up for several miles.

Williams says traffic didn’t clear for another several hours due to workers moving the beer from one truck to the other.

Nobody was injured during the incident.
