Budget Report Issued During Cumberland County Commission Meeting

The Cumberland County Commission heard budget updates on income figures for several categories at its meeting last night.

Finance Director Nathan Brock prefaced his report by saying new budget figures will be released around the 20th of this month, and he would present the numbers he presently has for county income.

EMS collections have been an issue, Brock said. They’re down about $400,000 for the first three months of collections. He’s scheduled a meeting with the third-party billing company’s management team to get the collections issue remedied.

Sales tax collections through September are approximately $1.7 million – some $40,000 ahead of budget.

Property tax collections stand at approximately 3%. Because the county budget was set early enough, tax notices were generated and distributed in late September. Some folks have already paid their taxes ahead of the regular tax-collection period, which puts the county in the position of enjoying a positive cash flow early on.

And, because the previous County Commission approved enactment of a fee for county archives/records storage and maintenance, the new revenue stream saw its first full month in September. Preliminary numbers show income of $6,239 – from the county clerk and master and the circuit- and sessions-court clerk.
