Bruce Rhoton Selected As New Celina Alderman

Celina resident Bruce Rhoton has been selected to fill the city’s vacant alderman position.

Alderman Don Haston said he and fellow alderman Buddy Thompson faced a difficult decision in choosing who would fill the void.

“I would like to say that they were all good candidates and they’re all nice people,” Haston said. “I realize we made one happy and three unhappy and that’s not good. I think the world of all of you and I think you all are good.”

Haston and Thompson each voted for Rhoton during Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting. Other city residents who applied for the position were Judith Newmans, Pat Burton, and Louis Turner.

The position opened after former mayor Joey Rich stepped down earlier this year due to health reasons. Current Mayor Tonya Spears took over for Rich beginning in April after serving as the city’s vice mayor.

Rhoton is a business owner in Celina and has previously worked as an environmental health safety and security professional.
