BonDeCroft Fire Truck Experiencing Issues

The BonDeCroft Volunteer Fire Department’s pumper truck may need to be replaced due to performance issues with the vehicle.

White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said it is still unclear whether the problem is in the vehicle’s water delivery system or the mechanical portion of the truck itself. Robinson said it is possible they will have to purchase an entirely separate vehicle depending on how severe the problem is.

“I got to look at prices,” Robinson said. “But to me it would be on the table. I mean, you know, we got to figure out what the value of that truck is if it’s running and what the value of it is right now and if it’s worth putting that money into it, if it mathematically makes sense, financially.”

Robinson said they do not have an official estimate but preliminary conversations indicate it could cost up to $36,000 to fix. Robinson said the problem is similar to those seen in Cassville’s fire engine that the commission helped pay to repair last May.

“Obviously we want to help everyone we can, but we can’t continue to take $30,000 licks,” Robinson said.

Robinson said county officials need to prepare for a request to fund the repairs and discuss how to handle the matter moving forward as all of the county’s fire trucks are at least twenty years old.

“Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the newest one we have in the county is a 2006 or 2007,” Robinson said.

Commissioners said purchasing an all-new fire truck that to meet the county’s needs would cost $80,000 to $100,000 as a low estimate.
