BonDeCroft Expansion Ready For New School Year

BonDeCroft Elementary has completed its 20,000 square foot expansion and is certified to start the new year.

White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said school staff have moved into the school and are prepared for students to register Wednesday. Dronebarger said the addition serves as a new main entrance and connects the old building to its detached gymnasium.

“It houses a new office suite,” Dronebarger said. “It also has pre-k space, kindergarten classrooms, general education classrooms upstairs, also houses our music and art programs and a brand new library. So it’s a really neat space, connecting the new to the old.”

Dronebarger said the additional space will be important as they grow in the future. He said there will be workers putting the finishing touches on the school in the coming weeks.

“It shouldn’t have any interruption to programming,” Dronebarger said. “We should be able to move through the building quite easily. You know, minor things, touching up paint here and small things there that might need to be done.”

Dronebarger said they determined what to add in the expansion based on what was lacking in the layout of the main building, with an emphasis on the library and additional office space.

“We wanted to create a whole new entrance to the school that says welcome to BonDeCroft and I think we were successful in doing that,” Dronebarger said.

Dronebarger said he is excited for the students and broader BonDeCroft community to come and see the new space.

“I’ve already had people stop me in the parking lot and tell me they think it’s the best looking school in our district,” Dronebarger said. “So that means a lot.”

Dronebarger said the next school board meeting on August 8 will take place at BonDeCroft.

“That’s also the open house night for our elementary schools so we’re excited,” Dronebarger said. “We’re going to combine that school board meeting at BonDeCroft and we’re going to be there and invite the public to come out, be a part of our meeting if they like, but more excitedly we hope that they’ll be part of the open house.”
