Search crews recovered the body of a drowning victim on Dale Hollow Lake Monday night.
The body of 52-year-old Sammy Bilyeu was recovered around 11:30 p.m Monday, according to Clay County Emergency Management officials.
Bilyeu, of Gainesboro, went missing Wednesday, July 18th after he fell from a jet ski near the Dale Hollow Reservoir and never resurfaced.
“The story that we got from the witnesses who were with him stated that he hit a wave from another boat that had come through,” Ckay County EMA Director Natalie Boone said. “He hit that wave and it threw him off.”
According to witnesses, the Bilyeu was wearing a life jacket until it fell off moments before the accident occurred.
Clay County Sheriff Brandon Boone said Bilyeu was the owner of Sammy’s One Stop Market on North Grundy Quarles Highway in Gainesboro.
