Authorities discovered a body at Cummins Falls State Park today, but it was not the body of a missing 73-year-old woman that crews are searching for.
Officials did not say if the person died as a result of Wednesday’s flash flooding event or if it was part of of an unrelated death.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County EMA, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating. Sheriff Marty Hinson said at this point it is not being considered a criminal investigation.
The 73-year-old woman went missing Wednesday after flash flooding his the falls area and left nearly 40 people stranded. By 8:00 Wednesday night crews had rescued all but one person from the flooding event.
Crews suspended their search for the missing woman Thursday evening, but they plan to resume search efforts Friday morning.
