The Van Buren County School Board pleased with the three candidates after completing interviews for the director position Wednesday.
School Board Chairman Tim Hodges said all three candidates performed well during the interviews. Hodges said the board will now have to personally evaluate who is the best overall candidate.
“Their time frame in the systems and then their knowledge of leadership and budgets,” Hodges said. “What they have worked on budgets and staff and communication. How they communicate with the public, the board, and the staff.”
Hodges said after the interviews he believes all three candidates would be able to get acclimated in time to handle the school system’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Hodges said the board could decide on who to hire as the new director during the board meeting next Wednesday.
“It should be made next week,” Hodges said. “We should have a director in place after next Wednesday night’s meeting.”
The school board has been searching for a new director after former Director of Schools Jared Copeland resigned in early February. Hodges said he and the rest of the board will likely be glad to be done with the search for a new director.
“It is a process,” Hodges said. “And we are a small school, so it is something we would like to get behind us.”
The next school board meeting will take place at 5:30pm Wednesday at the Van Buren County Board of Education Central Office.
