Blood Assurance has issued an urgent need for O negative blood donations.
Blood Assurance officials said they have less than a 1-day supply of O-negative blood and would not be prepared if a crisis occurred.
“You never know when you are going to have a tragedy or an accident,” Donor Recruiter Trudy Cody said. “Every day we need, as a whole, over 500 units a day for our hospitals.”
Cody said a steady supply of blood donations is needed right now especially as we enter the holiday season.
To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
