The Tennessee Department of Transportation has received four bids to widen Highway 56 from Warren County into Smithville.
TDOT Spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn reports Jones Bros. Contractors in Mt. Juliet submitted the lowest bid at nearly $43.7 million.
State officials will now examine each bid for any irregularities and award a bid within the next 30 days. A pre-construction conference between TDOT representatives, the winning bidder, and any affected utility companies will take place afterwards before construction begins.
The original bid posting indicates contractors shall complete the project by the end of May 2022. The project will span over eight miles of Highway 56 from just south of the Warren-DeKalb County line into Smithville.
Rogers Group, Inc., Wright Brothers Construction, and Civil Constructors also submitted bids ranging from $45.8 to just under $50 million.
