Bids due Thursday from companies interested in construction at the Cumberland County High School football complex.
Cumberland County Director Of Schools Janet Graham said water the biggest challenge in the project. The drainage flows off Miller Avenue through the middle of the football field.
“There’s a lot of water, there’s many, many acres that flows through the drainage,” Graham said. “That’s been step one for us, looking at how we make that work.”
Graham says the middle of the field can often fill like a swimming pool on gameday.
“For our field to ever be like we need, the drainage needs to be fixed,” Graham said.
Once the drainage issues are repaired, a new track will be installed. Graham said the old board of education facility located under the stadium will be gutted.
“Building something almost like a building underneath that will house concessions, changing areas for visiting football teams, and new restroom facilities,” Graham said. “It will be a major overhaul of the stadium.”
The school system held a pre-bid conference last Thursday. Bids due at 2pm Thursday.
