Bid for Monterey Kayak Launch Dock Approved

Monterey Board of Aldermen approved a bid to construct a Kayak Launch Dock Monday at Meadow Creek Park.

The launching dock will be wheelchair accessible and consist of a walkway to the kayak ramp. Monterey Mayor Mark Farley said this is one of many steps in improving the park.

“Well that’s just a little more draw to bring a little more people into town,” Farley said. “You know spend a little money we hope, so what is it, we got a bunch of renting kayaks and bikes and stuff out there now so we are just getting started on the park so we still got a lot of stuff to do.”

Kemp Brothers Construction plans to construct the dock in conjunction with the soccer field project the board has already approved. Partner and Project Engineer Jerry Warren said the ramp has been purchased and expects the installation to begin sometime in June.

“What we are referring to, is a tentative start date for the work on the soccer field,” Warren said. “We have been going back and forth Alex and quite frankly if they had been here in May we would just be watching it rain.”
