Beaty’s Warriors Right Back To District Play

Following a 49-7 loss to Upperman, White County head coach Curtis Beaty said the loss can send the season in two different directions.

The 3-2 Warriors face Macon County this week in another district match-up with post-season implications. Beaty said if it was in his control, he would not have scheduled these two opponents back-to-back.

“You would like to space some of those games out,” Beaty said. “After playing the number one team in the state and then you’ve got to turn right around the following week and play the team they beat by one point a few weeks back is not ideal for your scheduling, but it is what it is. It speaks highly of region 4 4A and how competitive it is.”

Beaty said that losing a game of that magnitude in the style that they did will present his players with a decision.

“It’s either going to light a fire and motivate them to fix things and work towards things and us as a team grow and continue to try and get better,” Beaty said. “Or the other side of it, kids and coaches can get frustrated and the season can fall apart at the seams.”

Beaty said last year’s team struggled to bounce back mentally from a week two loss to Cookeville. The Warriors would fall to 2-4, losing four straight and missed out on the postseason.

He said that last season he and the returning players learned how to battle back from adversity and has confidence that his players will fight through this seasons challenges.

“I have faith in these kids that they’ll choose the option of fighting hard,” Beaty said. “And trying to fight their way back to their feet and figuring this out and continue to grow and get better as a football team.”

Beaty said that this week’s preparation for Macon County would focus more so on shoring up the mistakes of last week, but noted that Macon County is one of the most physical and well coached teams they will face.

“At the end of the day, they brought back starters and a bunch of guys that played a bunch of football,” Beaty said. “Anytime you get that on a roster that means well on defenses and offenses alike. They trust each other and play very physical up front. They have great athletes on the back end, they’re very stingy and disguise a lot of stuff.”

White County welcomes Macon County to Sparta this Friday. Kickoff at 7pm.
