Bean Case Bound To Grand Jury

A grand jury will hear a case involving an Overton County man who allegedly fired shots at Warren County deputies last month.

66-year-old Charles Ray Bean appeared in court Tuesday afternoon on charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and evading arrest.

Bean’s attorney Brett Knight said he plans to ask for mental and medical evaluations as the next steps proceed in court.

Knight also said Bean and his family have expressed thankfulness for the restraint shown by two officers at the shooting scene as they rendered medical aid to Bean after the shooting.

The incident began Monday, November 19th when Bean allegedly set fire to his own barn and garage in Overton County and threatened to kill a family member in Warren County.

Officials said Bean traveled to Warren County where he fired at deputies after a pursuit ended near Highway 70. Bean suffered injuries during the shooting and received treatment at Chattanooga’s Erlanger Hospital.

Bean’s arraignment date will likely take place January 23rd.
