Baxter will show off its new police motorcycles Friday night in the annual Christmas Parade.
Chief Al Reyes said Friday will mark the first time the cycles have been on the streets. Reyes said two officers will lead the new motor unit.
“The two motor officers that we picked went through a grueling 80 hours of training, and they did very well,” Reyes said. “They were actually the two best in the class. So we’re very proud of them.”
Reyes said the unit will be a bit scarce until the weather warms up. He said the unit will be a huge help in patrolling the community.
“We’re looking forward to seeing them out there on the road,” Reyes said.
Mayor Danny Holmes said he never thought Baxter would have motorcycles as part of its police force.
“But I’m glad they’re here,” Holmes said. “And I’m glad I’m not riding one tomorrow night.”
Baxter Aldermen heard about final preparations for Friday night’s parade which could feature more than 100 entries. An 80-person choir from Cornerstone will perform. Food trucks will also be available and there will be events around the Depot.
