A Baxter woman died in a house fire along Buffalo Valley Road Sunday morning.
The woman’s name has not been released.
Both the Baxter Fire Department and Putnam County Fire Departments responded to the fire at 528 Buffalo Valley Road around 3:00am. They found smoke coming from the home. Firefighters began fighting the fire and trying to rescue a female occupant and the family dog. An adult male had made his way outside.
“The loss of life is tragic in any instance and we are saddened to lose one of our community members,” Fire Chief Matt White said. “I am proud of the efforts of our firefighters and our thoughts are with the family during this heartbreaking time.”
Firefighters were on the scene for some five hours. Both the Baxter Fire Department and the TBI are investigating. The official cause of death has not been announced.
