The pandemic led Baxter’s Board of Aldermen to decide against any further rentals for their visitor’s center.
Mayor John Martin posed the question to the board Thursday night of whether or not they wanted to continue rentals. All members agreed that it was not worth the efforts to sanitize the visitor’s center after it has been used.
Martin said COVID is continuing to force the city to make tough decisions.
“I think COVID is really serious, very, very serious and I think until we get control of this pandemic,” Martin said. “I think we need to be smart, protect our citizens but that’s just my views.”
Martin said it has been a terrible year with the cancellations of the Christmas parade, Christmas and Thanksgiving for city employees and nearly every new event that’s been proposed to Baxter.
